The Central Regional Minister, Kwamina Duncan says it is time for Europe and America to do some form of reparation in the aftermath of the slave trade where millions of Africans were sent oversees to work on plantations among others.
According to the Minister, the likes of Japan have taken the lead in doing some form of reparation urging the United States and Europe do the same.
“If you look at the case of Japan and it’s atrocities on South Korea and such other places, Japan is taking the lead to do some form of reparation. It must not be out of place at all for Europe and America to look in the direction of Africa to help grow the economy of Africa,” the Regional Minister said.
According to the Regional Minister, the input of enslaved Africans helped to build America and Europe adding that it is time for them to help grow the continent of Africa.
The Regional Minister made the call during a visit to the Region by Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi and her team who are in Ghana as part of activities marking “The Year of Return.”
According to Kwamina Duncan, the visit of Nancy Pelosi and her team to Ghana re-emphasizes the tragedy and devastation that Africans suffered at the hands of Europeans and America.
“Her coming to Ghana has made a huge statement to Europe and America that it is out of the sweat and the spilt blood of Africans that Europe and America are what they are today,” the Regional Minister stated.
