Ramaplast Ghana, a recycling company has signed on some beauty queens as ambassadors to represent the 16 regions of Ghana.
The ambassadors will help in distributing 10,000 bags to school children within each region by the end of the year.
According to Ramaplast, the bags are made from plastic waste.
The Ambassadors are: Naomi Obeng, Portia Danlugu, Leonora Adjin-Tettey, Nana Afia Prempeh, Nsiah Afrah Abigail and Akologo Beatrice.
As part of their mandate, the ambassadors are also to advise Ghanaians on ensuring proper sanitation in their homes and communities.
The ambassadors are also supposed to create eco clubs in various schools to sensitize students to ensure proper sanitation.
“We believe Regional industrialization will be boosted with this initiative which through the initiation of regional hubs in all 16 regions will help employ a lot of the youth in the field of sewing the bags, segregation of the plastic wastes and selling of the trash for cash,” the company said in a statement.
The CEO of Ramaplast, Miss Awurama Kena-Asiedu believes that a huge impact will be made nationwide if government supports this initiative.
She reiterated that, the project is in line with the sustainable development goals (SDG 6 and SDG 13), which border on clean water and sanitation and positive climate action.
She urged Ghanaians to make a conscious effort to be ambassadors of change in their own small way.
