Member of Parliament for the Nabdam Constituency Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane has provided health care facilities in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region to effectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The medical equipment includes hand sanitizers, veronica buckets, reusable overalls, medical infrared thermometers and disposable overalls.
The rest are surgical masks, gloves and liquid soap among others to all health facilities in the area.
Speaking to Citi News after presenting the items to the Nangodi health centre, Dr. Nawaane said, the donation was a swift intervention to protect frontline workers in the discharge of their duties to save constituents from the dangers of COVID-19.
“We have to strengthen whatever efforts that we are putting into the fight against COVID-19. My approach is holistic; you can’t be talking about social distancing at our health facilities without chairs, we can’t talk of handwashing without the supply of Veronica buckets, sanitizers and soap. So, it is within this context that, I present to you this Personal Protective Equipment to support the fight against COVID-19”.
Dr. Nawwane also donated pieces of metal chairs and tables to some health facilities to ensure strict compliance with social distancing.
He commended all health personnel for their sacrifice to protect and save the lives of constituents and pledged to support and protect them in their line of duty.
Dr. Nawaane bemoaned government’s snail-paced approach to the management of COVID-19 and admonished government to be scientific and proactive in dealing with the pandemic.
“We are delaying at each of the stages in the management and prevention of COVID-19, we did not support our own students in China and elsewhere to come into Ghana because we said they could be flown in with the disease but we allow foreign nationals into the country without been quarantined. If at that time we were not allowing foreigners into our country or quarantine them upon arrival, the importation of COVID-19 wouldn’t have happened.”
Generally, everything is been provided but late, the PPE are in the country but will arrive late at the health centres, so our health staff are complaining. I urge the government to be scientific because one of the major limitations for us to know the real state of affairs so far as COVID-19 is concerned is to carry out testing, so government should make all efforts to acquire more equipment for testing” the Nabdam legislator added.
Nabdam District Director of health services, Mr. James Tobiga Naabil commended the legislator for the timely intervention to protect health officials in the district in the wake of COVID-19.
“It has come at the right time to fight the pandemic, though others have supported us, the equipment couldn’t reach all of the health facilities but this donation will go further to reach all the facilities in the district so that together we can help fight against the disease”.
