On the 7th of September, 2020, the flag bearer of the largest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama unveiled the party’s manifesto dubbed; ‘The People’s Manifesto: Jobs, Prosperity & More; ahead of the December 7th general elections which set the ball rolling for the much-touted Rescue Mission.
The people’s manifesto; which will address Ghana’s under-development challenges has outlined some interventions such us;
1. Free Primary Healthcare for all Ghanaians.
2. US$10billion Big Push for massive infrastructural development over 5 years.
3. Create 1million decent and sustainable jobs over 4 years – Edwuma Pa.
4. National Apprenticeship Program (NAP)
5. Legalise commercial motorcycle business (Okada) & tricycles and regulate it.
6. Provide free Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) from the second cycle to the Tertiary level.
7. Reduce the size of government by at least forty (40) ministers.
8. Abolish the dreaded double-track system of secondary education. etc
The flag bearer, during his 2020 presidential and parliamentary campaign launch in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North region which kickstarted the largest and most effective community door-to-door campaign in Ghana’s history entreated us all to take the powerful messages in the manifesto to the people and let every community/individual understand what is in the manifesto for them.
There was a need for a decentralized retail campaign strategy which will see various groups/persons propagating the contents of the manifesto to people in every corner & hinterland.
here came the successful birth of the Ghetto Connect retail campaign team of whip-smart & zealous young people by the conscientious Deputy National Youth Organiser, Edem Agbana with the sole focus on inner cities, okada stations, shops & house-to-house. Since it’s inception, the team has been to constituencies like; Tema East, Ablekuma West, Madina, Adenta, Kpone Katamaso, Klotey Korley, Ayawaso West, Ledzokuku, Tema west, Krowor, Shai Osudoku, Ayawaso East, Amasaman etc to complement the efforts of the respective parliamentary candidates to spread the good news in the people’s manifesto to people.
I am highly honoured to be part of this trailblazing ghetto connect team because I am a progressive who beliefs in an obligation to help in solving the economic and social problems faced by the citizenry.
It’s been an extremely impactful journey with the team as we relate with the needs of the people and the joy with which they receive us together with the message of hope.
Yes, the grounds are fertile but let’s not get caught up in the euphoria of the moment because we have an elephant to kill on December 7th! Our collective efforts to rescue this retrogressing status quo from the hands of a corrupt, nepotistic, deceitful and inept government shall not be in vain. It’s imperative for us to remain vigilant during this final lap to render all sinister moves by persons/factions futile.
We are not relenting until the insurmountable John Dramani Mahama is re-elected on December 7th as the 6th President of the 7th Republic who shall be the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Victory beckons!
