Government has pledged to support the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in a bid to hold firm the ideals and aspirations of the institution.
According to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Hassan Tampuli, government will ensure the success of the university and provide the necessary resources to support its advancement.
Speaking at the opening of the 25th Board of Governors Meeting of the RMU in Accra, Mr. Tampuli noted that government will ensure that the ideals and aspirations on which the Regional Maritime University (RMU) was established stand, hence the assistance.
“Regional Maritime University epitomises the spirit of cooperation not only within the sub-region but also for Africa as a whole. The Government of Ghana is therefore committed to ensuring the success of the university and will continue to provide the necessary resources to support its advancement. It is also refreshing to note that over the years the Board had considered critically the challenges facing the University and had adopted strategies and plans that had resulted in remarkable levels of achievement. The Government of Ghana is very much appreciative of these facts and wishes to also reiterate its firm commitment to the ideals and aspirations to which the RMU was established,” he said.
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe lauded government for embarking on the university’s modernisation project and also financing the establishment of the library and the administration complexes.
He urged other Member States to take up the challenge of sponsoring similar projects of the university in the near future.
“Such efforts would strengthen the strong foundation of the transformation of the RMU into the enviable university that would continue to contribute to the maritime development in the region. The government of Cameroon had led a plan of action of ensuring that financial contributions were made on time and internet connectivity on the campus were improved among other things. The start of a maritime law programme in the RMU is very important for the development of maritime activities on the Continent”.
