The first day of the 2022 Heritage Caravan began in the Greater Accra Region and continued in the Central Region.
Patrons of the caravan toured the Assin Manso slave river site. The site used to serve as a final link in the slavery route from Northern Ghana.
In time past, the slave market was known as one of the largest slave market for merchants who supplied slaves through the forts and castles on the coast during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade.
The ‘Caravanites’ also visited the Ancestral Graveyard, Memorial Wall of Return, and ended at the Last Bath.
The Last Bath is also known as the ‘Great Depot’ where slaves took their last bath on African soil before they were led into the slave castles of Elmina and Cape Coast.
In the evening, the participants visited the Elmina Castle to watch the re-enactment of the slave trade, which ended with a bonfire called the light of hope.
