The Greater Regional Minister, Henry Quartey has indicated that the first batch of the city response team made up of 1,000 personnel are set to commence operations next Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
According to him, the officers are poised to begin work because they have received one month’s training on how to enforce sanitation by-laws.
Speaking at a ceremony to commission the Operation Clean Your Frontage Secretariat, Mr. Quartey called on individuals in the Greater Accra Region to cooperate by giving the officers the needed support.
“The first batch of abled men and women who have undergone one-month intensive military training to instill high levels of discipline will be passing out on April 26. A lot of education has gone on, and we are moving into full implementation of the by-laws immediately after the passing out.”
Henry Quartey also asked traders in the region who sell at unauthorized places to return to the various markets immediately.
“Traders selling at unauthorized places should move to designated places to conduct business without fail. From this day on, the call centre will be here and all the MMDAs will have call centres manned by NSS personnel and a taskforce led by ex-military officers. We expect that when a message is sent through the call centre, there will be a response within a maximum of one hour, in real-time, due to the traffic situation.”
The Operation Clean Your Frontage by-laws make it obligatory for individuals and corporate bodies to be responsible for the cleanliness and greening of their immediate environs.
“Persons and organizations that supervise filthy surroundings could be arrested and prosecuted under the new sanitation by-law,” says the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
The arrest is expected to be carried out by members of the city response team taskforce whom, according to the Greater Accra Regional Minister, would be dispatched into the Central Business District and other key areas of the capital from April 26, 2022.
The over 1,000 members of the taskforce undertook a one-month intensive military training at the Bundase military camp in March 2022.
The personnel will assist the Operation Clean Your Frontage Secretariat to receive complaints from the public and relay them to various MMDAs in the Greater Accra Region for swift action.
