The Rotaract Club of Accra East Legon has refurbished the Baba Yara Basic School library in Accra.
The library has, since its establishment in 2019, lacked the necessary reading and learning materials vital to the excellent performance of the over 1,000 students in the school.
The absence of these resources has, over the years, affected the academic performance of graduating students in their Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
To work to achieve Rotary International’s commitment to education, the Rotaract Club of Accra East Legon committed to reconditioning the Baba Yara Basic School library.
The project was completed on July 8, 2022, and handed over to the management of the school.
The library was remodeled with five bookshelves, a desktop computer, 300 copies of textbooks (core and elective subjects), story books, and general knowledge reference materials.
The security of the library, which has for a long while been of concern to authorities of the school, was also upgraded to ensure the study resources are well kept.
Presenting the items on behalf of the club and its partners, the Project Director, Worthy Elijah, said he is optimistic that the gesture would advance the academic performance of the students.
“As a club, we undoubtedly believe that through this project, Rotaract Club of Accra East Legon has created access to study materials, which will boost students’ academic performance and, most importantly, contribute to quality education in Ghana”.
The project was undertaken with the support of the Rotary Club of Accra-West, the Rotary E-Club of Ghana, CAMFED Association – Accra Chapter and individual donations from Rotarians.
Officials of the Ghana Education Service were in attendance to witness the August occasion.
