A Non-governmental Organization, The Woman Called She on 24th November, 2022 organised a symposium focused on bridging the digital divide, and exposing young girls to digital skills as part of its second anniversary celebrations
The symposium, themed “Think Before You Click” was held at the Sakumono Complex 2 JHS.
It is part of a social media and adolescent girl series.
It centered on the dangers of social media and how teenage girls can utilise social media to their advantage.
Some of the topics discussed were cyberbullying, sexting, and body shaming.
The social media and adolescent girl series started in November 2020 and has benefitted about 1,500 girls.
The NGO gave out sanitary pads to all the girls at the end of the event.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Elsie Boateng “The Woman Called She envisions a world where young girls grow to fulfill their purpose passionately in different sectors of the world.”
”This is the time to garner skills that will be needed in fulfilling those purposes.”
The NGO has reached out to other schools such as Forces Secondary Technical School, Garrison JHS, Burma Camp JHS, Kotoka JHS, and Services JHS.
About the Woman Called She
Though the main mission of The Woman Called She is to empower women through community-led initiatives, it is also concerned about the vulnerable and the needy in society.
The NGO has embarked on several other donation exercises throughout the year.
