Election 2024: APP calls on Ashanti Region to show NPP ‘red card’ for neglect

The Founder and Leader of the Action People’s Party (APP), Kenneth Nana Kwame Asamoah, has challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to identify a single project it has initiated and completed in the Ashanti Region.

He stated that the NPP has deceived the people of the region for years, benefiting electorally while neglecting infrastructural development.

Asamoah criticized the NPP for repeatedly disregarding the people of a region it claims as its stronghold and urged residents to show the NPP a ‘Red Card’ in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

At a news conference in Kumasi, Asamoah claimed the NPP has denied the Ashanti Region the development it deserves, pointing to unfinished market and hospital projects.

He argued that claims that the NPP represents Asanteman are “palpably false,” as the party has failed to bring the needed development to the Ashanti Region.

The APP leader also accused the NPP of breaking its promise to build five interchanges in the region.

Asamoah added that the NPP has neglected challenges at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, a major referral facility in the Ashanti Region. He noted that it took the intervention of the Asantehene to raise funds for renovations, despite the NPP’s eight years in power.

He criticised the party for prioritising funds on the construction of a national cathedral, which he referred to as a “hole,” instead of addressing the health needs of the Ashanti Region.

Asamoah also accused the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, of failing to fulfill his promise to the victims of the Kejetia Market fire and his party’s inability to complete Phase 2 of the Central Market project.

“Dr Bawumia promised to fix the recently burned Kejetia Market, yet over a year has passed without any action. Now he is touring the Ashanti Region, promising to provide a market in each district. Even the second phase of Kejetia has been abandoned for eight years. The NPP has not managed to construct a single market in the Ashanti Region during all these years.”

“The 2024 election is not about NPP and Asanteman: it’s about Asanteman voting against the NPP. The NPP has no business in Asanteman because they have failed,” he said.

He also described the NPP presidential candidate’s tour of the Ashanti Region as “utterly useless,” claiming there is not a single project from which the region has benefited under this administration.
