The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has called on foreign nationals and health professionals to register with the council before practising in the country.
The council says it is mandatory and backed by law for anyone who wishes to work in the health profession in the country.
This is in relation to a report on a non-Ghanaian purported to be a plastic surgeon and liposuction expert and his two accomplices who were arrested for practising without a license.
Speaking to Citi News, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Eli Atikpui indicated that anyone found culpable would have to face the law.
He advised volunteers who intend to administer health care to register to ensure good practice of the profession.
“Anybody who comes in and seeks to touch a patient or a client that individual must register with the medical and dental council. You may be coming here to do voluntary work but that does not mean that you should not respect the laws of the country.”
He cautioned individuals to desist from such act so as to promote good and quality health delivery services for the country.
“You are supposed to be registered by the medical and dental council. How could we ensure that all the people who are coming are doctors if you don’t submit your documents for us to really authenticate, to scrutinize and to ensure that you are a doctor.”
