Scores of workers at the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) are protesting the suspension of the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Frances Essiam.
When Citi News’ Caleb Kudah visited the company’s premises on Wednesday, the workers, clad in red and black chanted protest songs and slogans in disagreement with the board’s decision to suspend Madam Essiam.

The Board had reportedly queried Madam Essiam over claims that she has mismanaged GCMC, and also awarded some contracts without the approval of the Board or the Energy Ministry.
Six out of the nine Board Members took the decision to suspend her on Tuesday evening.
The workers who have declared their loyalty to the CEO, have questioned the board’s decision, deeming it unfair and inappropriate.
Frances Essiam received a rousing welcome when she arrived at the company’s premises on Wednesday morning despite her suspension.
Although she declined to respond to the administrative infractions leveled against her, she told Caleb Kudah that she is still CEO of the company.
She subsequently urged the workers to call off the protest and return to work.
Meanwhile, the workers say they are happy to see their CEO and will heed her call and return to work.
A notice sighted by Citi News on the company’s notice board indicates that the State Enterprise Company is instituting a 3-member committee to investigate the happenings in the company.
