A 45-year old man is in the grips of the Police at Ho in the Volta Region for allegedly defiling his three-year-old step-granddaughter.
The arrest was made through a collaborative effort between the Police in Ho and Citi News.
The suspect, Edey Sevordzi, was said to be molesting the girl when her mother and her grandmother were way.
Neighbours recounted moments when the child cries deep in the night to ostensibly call for help. But when they rush to the door, Edey advises them to ignore, with explanations that it was normal for children to cry at night.
When suspicions the suspect had been raping the girl became clearer, the victim’s mother was still hesitant to alert the police.
Following the intervention of Citi News, an arrest was made, and the child sent to the hospital for medical examinations.
The victim had signs of penetration and inflammations in her vagina, according to the medical report.
Edey Sevordzi admitted molesting the girl to police but said it was not regular as being suggested by neighbours.
The victim keeps mentioning the man’s name as being responsible for her pains when investigators met her and the mother.
The girl’s mother, who said she was initially helpless when she discovered the stepfather has been molesting the child, is calling on the police to ensure justice is duly served.
The Crime Officer at the Ho Central Police, ASP Nakoja told Citi News the case would be referred to the Domestic Violence Support Unit (DOVSU) for further investigations.
