After August 10, 2018, those seeking to submit entries to participate in this year’s Literacy Challenge will not be able to do so.
The Literacy Challenge has engaged and sensitized close to 15 schools since the beginning of the month July, and submissions will close officially on August 10.
Students of Junior High Schools in the country are thus encouraged to participate in the 2018 edition of the competition.
The Literacy Challenge is a Citi FM initiative that seeks to engage students in solving societal problems through writing to improve their writing skills, and to reward the most outstanding ‘all-around’ JHS student in Ghana.
The second edition of the Literacy Challenge was launched on June 6th at Christ the King School in Accra.
Schools visited by the Literacy Challenge team so far include Vine Christian School, Golden Sunbeam School, Mary Mount, Victory Presbyterian school, All Saints Anglican school and Grace Preparatory school.
The others are United Family Academy, Kay Billie- Klaer International, Alpha Beta Education Centre, Angels Specialist School, North Ridge Lyceum and St. Lutheran school.
This year’s challenge is in three stages and is opened to all Junior High School (JHS) students in Ghana.
At the stage one, JHS students are expected to write an essay on the topic: “The year is 2035; the law allows people below forty (40) years to contest for the presidency. You are a presidential candidate in the general election. In not less than 600 words, write your manifesto speech.”
In stage two, 50 contestants across Ghana will be shortlisted for a general knowledge quiz out of which the number of candidates will be reduced to 10.
At stage three, the ten contestants will battle for the Grand Prize of GHc10, 000 in a classic competition, “quizmaster/mistress and contestants style.”
The manifesto speech should be in the candidate’s handwriting and must be endorsed by their parent or guardian.
It must be addressed to the Literacy Challenge P. O. Box 14123 Accra Central or dropped at the front desk of Citi FM, Adabraka, Accra.
The 2018 edition of the Literacy Challenge is sponsored by Databank’s EdiFund and MoneyGram.
