The second stage of Citi FM’s Literacy Challenge is set to commence following the deadline for the submission of essays passed.
[contextly_sidebar id=”w4NOQ6S1CKcPaUCsJaOt5YBqjhavxcc2″] In stage one, Junior High School (JHS) students were expected to write an essay on the topic, “The year is 2035, the law allows people below age 40 to contest for the presidency. You are a Presidential candidate in the general election, in not less than 600 words, write your manifesto speech”.
The top 50 students from the first stage will move on to the second stage.
Selected students will then take an aptitude test to propel them to the next and final stage of the competition; where the final 10 participants will be shortlisted.
At stage three, the ten contestants will battle for the Grand Prize of GHc10, 000 in a classic general knowledge quiz.
Ranstina Lee Yankey, Head of Events at Citi FM and Citi TV, has told Citi News, processes have already begun to arrive at the top 50 students for the next round.
“We have collected all the scripts and handed them over to the examiners and marking has started. It’s an interesting period because those who have submitted the scripts would be able to make it to the top 50. Interestingly we got some submissions from over 128 schools with representation from every single region”.
She adds names of the qualified participants will be announced after the marking process.
“We are marking it [script] over a two week period. We would definitely announce the top 50 who will write the aptitude test”.
About Literacy Challenge
The Literacy Challenge is aimed at recognizing and rewarding the efforts of the overall best JHS student, in Ghana. There are three different levels of the competition. At the first level, participants take part in the essay competition.
At level two, the fifty participants who have been selected will be required to take an aptitude test.
The number will further be reduced to ten, for a quiz competition on the third level.
The Literacy Challenge also seeks to engage contestants in a three-month-long, fun-packed, and education-driven set of activities, which will propel young Ghanaians to develop literacy skills beyond just reading and writing.
The 2018 Literacy Challenge is sponsored by Edifund by Databank and MoneyGram with support by CITI TV.
