Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited (SSGL) has been named the best environmental and sanitation company of the year, 2018.
The prestigious award was bestowed on SSGL by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) at their 7th Ghana Industry & Quality Awards held on Saturday at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City.
Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited’s work has resulted in the the over 11-decade challenge of indiscriminate disposal of liquid wastes into the sea at the old lavender Hill in James Town-Accra being addressed.
The unbearable stench, coupled with the ugly sight of vultures and flies feeding on the human excreta being discharged directly into the sea at a portion along the James Town- beach in Accra, are no longer a scene.
Lola Asiseh Ashitey, the Business Development and Communications Manager of Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited, said “this incredible achievement will boost the morale of our highly spirited Staff to continually give their best in all aspects of operations to support our company’s objective of building similar and appropriate treatment plants in other parts of the country and beyond”.
She added that the dream of a clean Ghana is achievable only when every Ghanaian makes conscious efforts to stop the indiscriminate disposal of all forms of waste in solid form or otherwise.
Mrs. Lola Asiseh Ashitey said SSGL has capacity to design, build and manage such plants adding that the company is will start the construction of its next treatment plant in Kumasi by January 2019.
