Residents within Accra who have not had water flowing through their pipes for the past week should expect relief by midday on Saturday.
The Ghana Water Company Limited has said it is working to resolve the issue by midday.
Some parts of the national capital have been struggling with erratic water supply for some days now, a situation some say is negatively affecting socio-economic activities.
Residents have said the water shortage has forced them to spend several hours daily in search of water.
But the water company has blamed the shortage of water in Dansoman and Darkuman on the recent power outages which they say affected their production.
In an interview with Citi News, Head of Communications at the Ghana Water Company Limited, Stanley Martey said normal supply will be restored by mid-day with the current stability in the power supply.
“What happened was as a result of the power outages somewhere last and this week. It affected us seriously but we took advantage of it to do some repair and maintenance work. But we have some improvement in the power so we we have started some pre-production so we are hoping that by midday today, all parts of Western Accra should have water.”
Water shortages in Accra
Over the past years, Accra has been experiencing water shortages which usually spans for more than 3 weeks.
The situation is a concern for the residents as school children and women are often compelled to walk long distances in search of water.
It also affects hundreds of residents; many of whom resorted to the use of water drawn from wells and sachet water for domestic purposes.
Usually, a shortage of water in the capital also affects business activities.
