Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has apologized to Ghanaians and Charterhouse, organizers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards event, for the scuffle that marred the 2019 awards event held on Saturday.
In a statement, Stonebwoy attempted to explain the condition that compelled him to react in the way he did.
“I would like to extend my sincerest apologies and deepest regrets for the part my conduct played at what should have been the biggest celebration of Ghanaian music last night,” he pleaded.
He noted that his general sense of alertness and security caution had been increased due to several instances in his professional life that revealed that his security arrangements had lapses.
Among other things, he cited the recent incident at Ashaiman where his wife was rushed to hospital after a knife attack during his concert.
“This for me has been quite alarming with regards to my security. Such unfortunate incidents have clearly had an impact on the sense of alertness of my entire team and I,” he said in the statement.
Stonebwoy is being criticized alongside his showbiz rival Shatta Wale for their conduct that nearly resulted in the abrupt closure of the event.
It started when Stonebwoy was called to receive the award for ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ during last Saturday’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Reports suggest that Shatta Wale walked on the stage with his fans allegedly to congratulate Stonebwoy for the award but the move was interpreted by Stonebwoy’s team as an attempt to protest against the award going to their favourite musician.
Confusion halts awards’ night
The confusion that ensued after that clash halted proceedings at the venue and the live broadcast for some minutes.
Stonebwoy later returned to denounce Shatta Wale alleging that he wanted blood and death in Ghana.
Calm was restored after nearly 30 minutes with the show continuing till the end.
While some patrons left during the melee, many stayed till the end of the show.
Stonebwoy later apologized for the incident on stage but that has not stop Ghanaians especially on social media from taking him and Shatta Wale on for the incident.
The two are already facing police action but Stonebwoy in his press release said he and his team are taking the necessary steps to review their security arrangements to avert such an occurrence in the future.
