The Northern Regional Police Command has said it will follow its leads to arrest Chinese national, Helena Huang who is wanted for illegally transporting Rosewood.
Helena Huang failed to report herself to the police as required after she was granted a police enquiry bail.
The Northern Regional Police Command subsequently filed a summon notice at the High Court to compel Helena’s surety to produce her but he failed.
Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Yussif Tanko told Citi News the Command is also relying on their leads to arrest Helena Huang.
“A lot of efforts are underway to locate her whereabouts and also have her arrested. To achieve that, you remember that we recently restricted the bond on the surety in Tamale where the surety was also detained for his inability to meet his bail condition.”
“We have now secured it and the court has given them two weeks to bring their own suspect but as a police institution looking for a suspect to arrest, we are not leaving that to the surety alone. We are also trying very hard to look for means to arrest her.”
Huang’s company shut down
Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Braimah ordered the closure of Brivywell Company, the timber firm owned by Helena Huang.
The firm, which is located in Yipala, a farming community near Damongo is said to be engaged in illegal logging and processing of rosewood, which has been banned, for export.
The Minister has also set up a nine-member committee to investigate illegal logging activities in the region.
