The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has pledged to ensure that all communities within the constituency gain access to potable water by 2020.
He made this known when he commissioned a mechanized water system project at Adwarfo last week.
The project is the 20th one commissioned since Mr. Oppong Nkrumah was given the nod to be MP for the constituency.
According to him, his vision is to ensure that all residents in the constituency have access to potable drinking water.
“We are working assiduously to ensure that all the communities are connected. Currently we have just commenced work on 14 different mechanized water system across the constituency and it’s in addition to the first 6 that they did in 2017 and those that took place before the 2016 election”, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said.
He added that “by 2020 every community will be covered with potable drinking water.”
Mr Oppong Nkrumah said, in order not for the project to end up being abandoned due to poor management, a local water and sanitation committee has been set up to oversee to that responsibility.
He said that the committee will be in charge of the revenue generated from the project to manage and maintain the water systems.
He also indicated that his outfit would also work to ensure that all bad roads in the communities would be fixed to ease movement of people, goods and services.
Some residents who spoke to Citi News expressed their appreciation and gratitude concerning the project.
Mr Alex Nyarko, a resident of Adwarfo indicated that the project had come at the right because all the streams which used to be their sources of water have been contaminated by economic activities.
“We used to drink from streams but all have been destroyed because of the palm oil business that the community is engaged in so I am very happy this project is here”.
