The Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has begun a tree planting exercise to plant 25 million trees across all towns and villages within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area.
According to him, making tree planting a lifestyle is the best way of making the environment green again.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin addressed a gathering of chiefs and people as part of his royal tour to 16 towns in the Abuakwa area and tree planting exercise to mark his 20 years on the stool after planting some trees in Kwabeng.
He called on all and sundry to support the tree planting exercise.
“We want peace on every Abuakwa land, we want jobs to be available in our lands but we can’t do this without your support. We are going to plant trees in Okyeman. We have allowed galamsey to destroy our lands and water bodies”.
“I always say that if our ancestors left for us good treasures and environment and we can not manage it then we should not destroy it. So we have begun a tree-planting project to fill all lands in Akyem Abuakwa with trees. We have started from Adoagyiri and it will continue to Jejeti both left and right sides of the area and even plant some of the trees in Kwabeng”.
Osagyefo however indicated that the objective of the tree planting exercise is to ensure that 25 million trees are planted in 5 years to help protect the lands.
“We will make sure some are also planted in Akrofufu and all Akyem lands. Our objective is that in 5 years 25 million trees will be planted in all Akyem lands to help regain the degraded lands. So I urge all of you gathered here to make frantic efforts to support this initiative,” he added.
