Some 1,200 residents of Asuboni Rails in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region have been displaced following heavy rainfall.

The 7-hour downpour destroyed some 50 homes forcing residents to take refuge in a church building.

Speaking to Citi News, Eastern Regional National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director, Kwame Appiah Koduah confirmed that no deaths had been recorded.

“NADMO received reports of torrential rain on the 4th of October. The rain started around 10pm and lasted for 7 hours. As a result, 50 houses have collapsed and 1,200 people were rendered homeless. The people are now using a church hall as their place of residence and so far we have not recorded any deaths”.

Flooding in various parts of Ghana anytime it rains has become a household problem that always leaves fear in the hearts of people when there are signs of rain.

Two die in flood

Two persons reportedly drowned in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region following a downpour earlier this year.

The two were among a party of three who tried crossing the flooded Kulabil bridge between Pelungu and Sakoti using a tricycle after a downpour.

A rescue team from the Nabdam National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO) retrieved all the three but two were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bolgatanga hospital.
