The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo says Ghanaians will gladly retain Nana Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana after the 2020 general elections.

According to him, following the successes that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has achieved in the three years spent in government, the Ghanaian populace will, in turn, accept President Akufo-Addo overwhelmingly after the polls.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, the Senior Minister said: I’m sure that when we vote in December next year, the results will show the overwhelming acceptance for Akufo-Addo to continue.”

“Looking at our performance, Akufo-Addo certainly deserves another term,” he said adding that Ghanaians “will certainly decide positively [in 2020].”

NPP will secure re-election in 2020 – EIU Report

The Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU, has predicted that the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, will win the elections in 2020.

The EIU in its country report on Ghana released in May said it will be difficult for the opposition National Democratic Congress under former President John Dramani Mahama, to portray itself as the better custodian of Ghana’s economy, especially as the country’s growth outlook looks fairly strong.

The EIU has over the years released similar reports and predictions on Ghana’s elections, which in a number of cases have turned out to be right.

On the back of this, the main opposition party NDC rubbished these predictions made by the EIU, describing it as inaccurate.

In a statement, the NDC said: “Having done an objective and dispassionate analysis of the latest EIU report on Ghana, the NDC comes to the obvious conclusion, that the EIU has largely gotten their latest prediction of Ghana’s 2020 general election wrong.”

Meanwhile, ex-president John Dramani Mahama has vowed to work day and night to win the polls in 2020.

In a campaign message shared on is Facebook page, John Mahama said he is ready to work with the party’s supporters to ensure that the party wins the 2020 polls.

President Akufo-Addo has however not announced his intention officially to contest as the flagbearer of the NPP ahead of next year’s polls.
