President Nana Akufo-Addo has touted his government’s handling of Ghana’s economy compared to what he described as an ailing economy he inherited from the previous government.
Speaking highly of the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) economic fortunes, President Akufo-Addo boasted that, his government has for the past 36 months managed the economy in an all-time right direction.
He added that it was crystal clear that, economic statistics and data of the country have been positive giving a strong indication that the Akufo-Addo led government has so far performed creditably well in the management of the Ghanaian economy.
“Many of the statistics and data about my government is the reason why we are here and why the people of Ghana made the change. For me, that is the central issue we are going to account for. So how have we fared? For instance, inflation is somewhere 8.2 or 8.4 percent this year which is a significant improvement. There has also been a significant improvement in our fiscal statistics.”
We were left in 2016 with the slowest growth rate of the economy by 3.63 percent in over a decade. With our fundamental adjustments of economic structure, we have dealt with inflation, fiscal deficit, slow growth and agriculture. So the main task which continues the main task to bring back this economy back again.
President Akufo-Addo also lashed out at critics who belittle the essence of macroeconomic indicators and its impact on the living standards of Ghanaians.
He argued that the performance of a government in relation to the macroeconomic indicators largely influences the living condition of its citizens.
Four more years for Nana Addo
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has appealed to Ghanaians to give President Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) another term in office in the 2020 elections.
According to him, the achievements of the NPP and President Akufo-Addo in the last three years is unprecedented adding that another term for the NPP will help transform Ghana.
“This is the first term. This is just our first term. When you take our first term and compare that to the NDC you can see the difference. Look at their first term and compare it to our performance. It is a clear case of boot for ‘chale wote’. It is clear. So, the bottom line is that we have performed better, four more for Nana. We have performed better,” he said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, as one with no record to defend, and one who has no prescriptions for the future.
