Some of the family members who lost their relatives in yesterday’s road crash have visited the Cape Coast Teaching hospital to identify and collect their remains of their relatives.
Clad in mourning cloths, they looked forlorn and dejected as they undertook the identification process.
Some of them, who spoke to Citi News, broke down in tears while sharing fond memories of their loved ones.
“When I have a problem with my dad, he is the only one I talk to.”
Another person also cried saying: “On Monday, I spoke to her and she said was in Accra and that she will call me later because she was busy. If I knew that was the last time, I was hearing from her, I wouldn’t have hung up.”
“It is not going to be easy, but in all things, we will give thanks to God. She is my senior sister. I am not going to see her again so I am going to be strong for my junior sisters,” one other added.
Railways Minister visits
Meanwhile, the Minister for Railways who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Esikado Ketan, Joe Ghartey was present at the hospital to sympathize with the bereaved families.
“About 90 percent of our travel is by road. But because the train has taken off, that statistics have changed a bit. There are too many accidents, I am not going to blame anyone but the train is safer. I think that we are doing our best and in a few years time we will go back to the old days when you can travel to Takoradi [without any problem].”
On the dawn of January 14, 2020, 34 people died while 57 others were in critical condition after an intercity bus with registration number GR 5704-18 collided head-on with another bus with registration number GN 3780-10 at Dompoase near Elmina in the Central Region.
The crash occurred when a vehicle moving from Accra towards Takoradi tried to overtake a vehicle ahead in a sharp curve thereby, colliding with an oncoming vehicle en route to Accra.
Help identify bodies in Tuesday’s road crash – Cape Coast Hospital to Ghanaians
The Cape Coast Teaching Hospital earlier called on the public to help identify persons who were killed in Tuesday’s road crash at Dompoase.
Public Relations Officer of the Hospital, Frederick Nyankah in an interview said: “If you have any relative who travelled on Monday from Accra to Takoradi or Takoradi to Accra, and you have not heard from them, please come to the office and let’s go through the process of identifying them. Maybe your relative may be part of them.”
President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his sympathies to the families and loved ones of all persons who perished in the accident.
In a tweet, he prayed for the souls of all those who lost their lives in the crash and wished those who got injured in the crash a speedy recovery.
