The Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South in the Ahafo Region, Collins Offinam Takyi, has assured drivers, commuters and drivers that there will be a facelift of the Bechem-Techimantia road.
The 14-kilometre road, which is a major route in the Tano South Municipality, is in a deplorable state.
Construction work on the road started in 2015 but has since stalled.
Mr. Takyi, in a Citi News’ interview, assured the users of the road that construction will soon begin.
“The good news is that this is the year of roads; we are also going to have our own benefit of the year of roads. The contract has been awarded to China, water and electric corporations to construct the road for us.”
“The Bechem to Ankama Oda road is 40 kilometres and the contractor was here about three here to meet with the chiefs. The design is also ready and it has been shown to the regional engineers of roads and highways so very soon we will see the equipment moving to the site,” he said.
Agitations over the poor road networks
The deplorable state of roads in parts of the country remains a challenge to most Ghanaians.
Recently, residents who have been outraged by poor roads have resorted to a series of protests to pile pressure on authorities to get their roads fixed.
They have been burning tyres and wielding placards with varied inscriptions to have their roads which are full of potholes and bumps fixed
The government in its quest to address the poor road networks in major parts of the country has declared 2020 as the “year of roads” to address this particular infrastructure deficit.
