The Ashaiman Area of The Church of Pentecost, in collaboration with sister churches, has launched the Agent of Peace Campaign in the Ashaiman Municipality to sensitize the populace about the need to eschew violence in the upcoming general elections in Ghana.
This follows the national launch of a similar campaign by the General Headquarters of the Church of Pentecost to call for peace, before, during, and after the 2020 December polls.
The launch which was themed, “Seek Peace and Pursue It” garner support from every nook and cranny of persons in the Ashaiman Municipality including the Islamic community, security agencies, and all political parties to advocate and support the uptake of peace in the Municipality.
In his welcoming address, the Area Head, Prophet David Kankam Beditor, who is also an Executive Council Member of the Church, informed that peace pursuit is a collective responsibility, and admonish everyone to continually pursue peace with one another and avoid political and tribal denigrations.
He further acknowledges that as the Church desires to possess the nations, it cannot obviously possess a broken nation, and essentially “Ashaiman has for many occasions been in the news for the bad reasons and more importantly been catalogued as a hot-spot for periods like this.”
It is therefore against this backdrop that the Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye has charged all leaders of its Area and District to launch a peace campaign ahead of the December polls.
Prophet Kankam expressed optimism about the church’s intervention to yield the maximum desire result. “we are very confident and hopeful that through the church’s prayer 2020 election will be peaceful.”
He also called on parents to advise their wards against violence, and the electoral commission to be truthful in carrying out their duties. For we can only develop or progress in peace.
Paster Daniel Sackey, National Executive Member of the youth ministry, admonished the youth of voting age, to go and cast their votes in peace and not be lured into engaging in violence.
He charged the youth to be vigilant, protect their future and avoid instigating chaos.
