Child Rights International has decried the use of children by political parties in commercials as a means of disseminating their policies.
According to the Non-governmental Organisation, the use of children by political parties to disseminate their policies violates the rights of children.
Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah argued that the law indicates that children must be protected, so it is a violation of the rights of children if political parties use them for adverts in the media.
“The laws say we have to protect them so if we have done something for them, there is no need to use them in adverts to indicate the policy is better”.
He called on relevant state institutions to ensure that political parties follow the right procedure in engaging children for such purposes.
“The Electoral Commission can ensure that the political parties follow certain prescriptions before putting out the advertisements. The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) can also check the advertisements before they are put out there,” he said.
