The National Democratic Party (NDP) says its flagbearer, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has not pulled out of the upcoming presidential elections.
At a press conference on Monday, November 23, 2020, the General Secretary of NDP, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong said the flagbearer has also not initiated any discussions with the Electoral Commission over a possible withdrawal from the race as being speculated.
“This is fake news and it should be regarded as such. Our leader has not given any information to that effect,” Alhaji Frimpong said.
Earlier reports claimed that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings had withdrawn from the race due to the death of her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.
But the party dismissed the claims, which it attributed to its detractors.
General Secretary Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong said Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings “will gather the strength to lead our party.”
He said the NDP and its leaders across the country will be resolute and continue their campaign fro victory in the 2020 elections.
“We will like to inform the general public that our campaign is ongoing and our parliamentary candidates are out there canvassing for votes and our regional and constituency executives as well as supports and sympathizers are still campaigning and should remain resolute. Indeed, we intend not to glorify the wishes of our detractors,” he said.
He added that while the party is in touch with its flagbearer, its position is that she will lead them into the 2020 polls despite the demise of her husband who is the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
