A 19-year-old boy has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Yendi circuit court in the Northern Region for armed robbery.
The convict, Umar Munya together with two other accomplices who are still on the run allegedly robbed a farmer of his motorbike, an amount of GHS640 and his mobile phone on Thursday 29th October 2020.
According to police, the convict together with his colleagues robbed the victim on the highway when he was returning from Sang in the Mion district after selling his yam.
He was sentenced on his own plea.
The judge, Justice Anthony Duku Aidoo said the accused is a first time offender and a young man hence the decision to sentence him to the minimum sentence of 10 years.
He said he believes that the punishment will serve as a deterrent to others.
The prosecutor told the court that the spate of highway and domestic robbery in the area is on the increase in the municipality and in most cases, precious lives are lost when the victims try to resist the attacks.
