The Conference of the Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools has welcomed the decision by the government to reopen schools across the board.
The General Secretary of the Conference of the Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools, Joseph Dzamesi, said to Citi News although the reopening is a good idea, they will need government support.
President Akufo-Addo announced the resumption of school at all levels in his latest update on Ghana’s management of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are very happy with the President’s announcement on directives as students come back from the 18th of January. We are hoping that when that happens we are able to catch up, especially the second years they are so past time, they will be able to catch up with work and help them get ready for WASSCE.”
“We want to commend the government for including private schools in the earlier fumigations that took place across the country. Before the final years came back to school, both private and public schools were fumigated at government cost. Private schools did not have to bear that cost, even when it came to the distribution of the PPEs.
He stated that he is hopeful the government would bear the cost of the fumigation exercise in the schools.
“Although nothing has been communicated to us yet, we do expect the government to follow the same line and ensure that students who attend private schools also come back to a safe environment. We are hoping that the government will contact us soon and offer the same package they offered to public schools to private schools,” he added.
