The Executive Director for Truth TV, Conrad Kakraba says the management of the station has begun processes towards acquiring a license from the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Truth TV is one of the 49 channels that have been shortlisted by the NCA to be shut down for operating without valid licenses.
A statement issued by the NCA said the exercise is being done in conjunction with the Ghana Police Service and National Security Intelligence Operatives.
Speaking on the Eyewitness News, Mr. Kakraba explained that the station has acquired a temporary license to operate and is working towards completing the process of getting authorisation from the NCA.
“We started operating in August 2020. Before setting up the station, I personally went to the NCA, picked up a form for authorisation, so that we can get our own channel license authorisation. But for now, we are operating with a bouquet license. They are granted to Service Providers who in turn give it to channels to start operating until they are given their own authorisation.”
“We have not yet submitted the forms we picked up for authorisation. Our bouquet license will expire in July this year, and it is renewable. It is also recognised. So we are operating with that until we are able to complete the process to get ours.”
“We have written to the NCA explaining what we have and are asking for consideration. We are hopeful that we will surely bounce back after the processes are completed,” Mr. Kakraba added.
He indicated that the management of the TV channel has already shut down the station, pending the resolution of the outstanding issues.
“For the time being, we have shut down our channel. We did that even before the West Africa Platform Services wrote to us. “
He noted that the TV channel does not broadcast any inappropriate content.
“We do not even advertise alcoholic beverages. All our viewers are aware of this.We had to quickly issue a rejoinder when we saw our name circulating on social media,” he added.
Truth TV is a campus television station affiliated with the heritage College Media Centre.
Some other channels to be affected by the NCA’s operation are Virgin TV, Thunder TV, Maranatha TV, Kwaku Bonsam TV, and Obuor TV.
Meanwhile, the NCA has already shut down Thunder TV and Ice1 TV for allegedly broadcasting money doubling content.
