Ghana’s foremost online aggregator for healthy food vendors, Healthy treats has been launched in Accra.
The launch took place at the ‘N8tive’ food and beverage bar inside Airport Residential on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
The online food aggregator for healthy meals, which is the first of its kind began through the GIZ’s initiative to tackle the menace of non-communicable diseases in Ghana after available research at the time suggested that 43% of deaths in Ghana were attributable to non-communicable diseases.
The project by Longlivety Ghana together with support and help from Design Thinking Ghana aimed at creating awareness and the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices through especially exercise and hygienic food.
Speaking at the launch of Healthy Treats, General Manager and Project lead for Longlivety, Doris Ahiati explained that the reason behind the Healthy treats app is as a result of their commitment to addressing the rising trend of non-communicable diseases in Ghana as a result of unhealthy lifestyle choices.
“The Healthy Treats App provides an interface for aggregating restaurants chefs and kitchens that exclusively focus on preparing healthy food. One of them is native bar who is hosting us today.”
We have many other such restaurants that have already agreed to partner us and in the coming days, we will have more partners on board. Our next set of partners are the delivery agents. We are partnering a number of logistics and delivery companies that will ensure that the food you order is delivered to you under hygienic conditions and on time. Our commitment to addressing the rising trend of NCD’s and support of GIZ have brought us to where we are today.” She said.
“The problem that our persona, the typical professional between the ages of 20 and 40/45 years faces is ‘How to maintain health and fitness over their career life’. The challenge is that, whereas before we enter into employment, we may have more control over their time and are able to live relatively healthy lifestyles by making healthy choices with convenience, once we start work, the demands of the job, the need to be accountable and the demands from supervisors and managers sometimes make it difficult for professionals to spend time finding the healthy food options while at work.” She further added.
Doris Ahiati also expressed her appreciation to her appreciation to supporting partners including the GIZ and Design Think Ghana for the collaboration in ensuring that the app was launched.
“We also want to extend our profound gratitude to all the organizations and Partners that have supported us this far in our journey and my first appreciation goes to GIZ for the Vision and for providing all the technical support so far. I also want to say a big thank you to Design Thinking Ghana for your role in keeping us on our feet. I would like to thank our coaches and mentors I would like to also thank Seedstars for your current support as we get into the next phase of our solution.”
