Young Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist, Charles Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has been named the ‘African Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the 11th edition of the African Achievers Awards held on the 10th of December 2021, at the Kensington Palace, London, United Kingdom.
The African Achievers Awards is an annual awards event. Awards are given in the categories of community development, leadership, arts & culture, business & entrepreneurship, agriculture, community service, rural development, and education.
Speaking to citinewsroom.com about the recognition, Charles Ohene Kwame Frimpong said he was overwhelmed as he could not explain how the organizers got to know about him.
“All I can say is that it means that people are watching me from afar beyond Ghana, and that challenges me to do better. The fact that it’s an award organized and issued in the UK alone brings a huge value to it, and then it reminds me that I’m not only being monitored here in Ghana but outside Ghana as well, and that alone sends a strong message for us to keep doing what we are doing.”
According to Charles Ohene Kwame Frimpong, he was very proud to have received his award alongside another Ghanaian businessman, Osei Kwame Despite of the Despite Media Group, who was given the overall ‘African Entrepreneur of the Year’ award at the ceremony.
“I was very proud looking at Osei Kwame Despite and what he has done in business over the years, he’s far ahead, and so he deserves that award. So being paired as the young African Entrepreneur of the year by his side as the African Entrepreneur of the year, with the difference being the young, makes me very proud.”
Ohene Kwame Frimpong, the Executive Chairman of Wealthbridge Limited, which owns the famous Kub’s Original Bofrot Puff Puff where he is the majority shareholder, also operates a subsidiary in the UK, where it produces to meet the needs of consumers in the UK market.
He said the gains made with that product, which was recognized by the award organizers came by hard work and determination.
“It’s not easy, but it comes out of perseverance and determination. Kub’s Original Bofrot Puff Puff was launched in May 2021, and in a space of six months we distributed within 17 countries, and to me that is enormous. This is because such success stories are achieved by very big brands, but for myself and my business partners to have launched this product in Ghana, and to have it in 17 countries in six months, with it being available in the US in 21 states, that’s massive. And so, looking at that and receiving an award, I think we’ve done really well.”

About the African Achievers Awards
The awards organization, Achievers Media, was founded by Tonye Rex Idaminabo, a lawyer. The first award was presented to Archbishop Desmond Tutu in 2011 in recognition of his fight for human rights, justice, and peace.
The first awards event was held at the King’s College London in 2012, where two Awards for Excellence in Leadership were presented, the first to the President of Malawi Joyce Banda and the second to the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Orelope Akinfilure, for outstanding leadership of the economy of Lagos State.
Other award events have been held in Nairobi, Kenya, Johannesburg, South Africa, among others. Ghanaian businessman, Ibrahim Mahama, was part of the awardees in 2017.
The theme for this year’s award ceremony and colloquium was ‘Maximizing Diaspora Investments for Sustainable Development in Africa.’
The Chief Executive Officer of the African Achievers Awards, Dr. Tonye Rex Idaminabo, said the theme was chosen due to the need to tap into the expertise and resources of Africans in the diaspora to accelerate the timeline to realizing economic growth and sustainable social transformation in Africa.
Aside from Arch. Bishop Desmond Tutu; some previous awardees include H.E Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, former Chairperson of the African Union; H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of the Republic of Tanzania; Dr. Josephine Ojiambo, former Deputy Secretary-General of The Commonwealth, and Dr. Margaret Blick Kigozi, former Executive Director, Ugandan Sports Authority, among others.
