Take advantage of available resources to gain better future – GCUC freshers urged

About 1,996 freshmen inducted into the Garden City University College (GCUC) at Kenyase in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region have been urged to chart a path towards attaining a better future.

The freshmen who are to pursue diplomas, degrees, and master’s programmes in nursing, ICT, Business, and Communication include foreign nationals.

President of GCUC, Professor Edward Kwame Asante, addressing the freshmen during the 16th matriculation ceremony, emphasised the need for students to make maximum use of the resources and facilities placed at their disposal as they begin a journey into the world of work.

He said gaining employment in the current dispensation was a daunting task, and graduates must endeavour to show a difference to convince their potential employers.

He maintained that such a difference must start from the university, where students are trained and groomed to face the reality out there.

He added that “You have some of the best lecturers in the country teaching you. Their efforts will be in vain unless you complement them through hard work and dedication to the purpose of being here. Attend lectures regularly, complete your assignments on time, and take part in all assessments.”

Professor Kwame Asante also reminded the students as part of their obligations to maintain law and order, pay their school fees and other levies, as well as protect the University College property, and also respect the rights of their fellow students.”

He further urged students “to report any criminal activities to the University College authority, keep your hostel and lecture rooms clean, and study hard to fulfil your dreams of coming to the university.”

The GCUC in 2018 matriculated 35 and 35 regular students for the Nursing and Midwifery departments, respectively.

The college, during the recently held ceremony, matriculated 220 and 114 regular students for the Nursing and Midwifery departments, respectively.

The current number of students who matriculated is in sharp contrast to a total of 579 students who matriculated when Professor Asante assumed office in 2018.

The GCUC President also commended the alumni, continuing students, and staff who referred many of the freshers to GCUC, for “this monumental achievement.”

Professor Asante admonished them to be law-abiding and work hard to realise their dreams.

He assured that the University will continue to provide the right environment to enhance teaching and learning.
