Breast cancer poses a significant concern for many women, with research indicating that more than 4,000 women in Ghana are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

Additionally, studies show that up to 70% of these women have advanced-stage cancer by the time it is identified.

In support of breast cancer surgeries, Vivo Energy has donated a Smoke Evacuator and surgical equipment to support the efforts of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines, the Corporate Communications Manager of Vivo Energy, Shirley Tony Kumi, indicated that a request from the management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital prompted the donation.

“Vivo Energy is committed to the health of its people. Health and safety are integral to our operations. During the month of October, which is Pink October, we collaborated with the Korle Bu Teaching Department. We wanted to support the fight against breast cancer. And so throughout deliberations, we were told that they needed a smoke evacuator, which is key equipment during their surgical procedure, to help evacuate the smoke that emits during the surgery. And the company being a responsible company, having safety and health as part of its core corporate social responsibility, decided to help them. So today, we donated the smoke evacuator, which has the trolley and its accessories, and we believe it will play a key role in the delivery of quality healthcare.”

Upon receiving the donation, the General Surgeon at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Josephine Nsaful, expressed appreciation to Vivo Energy for their generous gesture.

“It’s very timely. It’s a wonderful Christmas present. During Christmas, we will be here still working on breast cancer patients.”
