The owner of defunct UT Bank, Captain Kofi Amoabeng, has encouraged the youth in Ghana not to leave the country in search of greener pastures.

He asserts that the rush to seek better opportunities abroad is misguided, as there are significant issues in Ghana that require attention and resolution, stressing the importance of staying in the country.

Mr. Amoabeng gave the advice at the launch of the Young Professionals Business Network – a platform to unleash the potential of the Ghanaian youth on Saturday, December 16, at Kaila’s Event Hub, East Legon.

In his speech, he challenged the youth, pointing out that the countries people often aspire to work in also generate employment by addressing their own set of challenges.

“Do not hastily leave the country in pursuit of better job opportunities. Stay and actively contribute to solving the issues at hand. Those who relocate to other countries often succeed because they identify and address challenges in their new environment. By staying and actively participating in problem-solving, you can make a positive impact and potentially transform lives. While challenges may arise, perseverance in pursuing your goals will prove valuable in the long run. This is how you create the employment you so desire.”

As a businessman, he shared valuable insights on effectively running a business in Ghana.

He highlighted that the prevalence of what he termed as “nonsense tradition” in Ghana has hindered the success of many businesses.

He expressed worry over the lack of adherence to established codes of conduct by business owners contributes to employees not following these rules.

Moreover, he urged individuals to embrace practices that enhance their business brand and positively influence their personal brands.

“Stay vigilant and align with your business’s purpose. As the owner, you hold a unique vision that others may not see; resist being influenced by counterproductive cultural norms. Establish your own organizational culture and ensure everyone adheres to it. Focus on building capacity, acquiring knowledge, cultivating a habit of saving money, reinvesting profits, and actively seeking mentorship to foster sustained growth.”

In response to a question about why he continues to lead a normal life after losing his bank to the government, he attributed it to the power of humility.

“I have consistently upheld values of humility and integrity throughout my life. If I had been disrespectful and condescending to others during my business tenure, I doubt I would have the ability to face the public now. It’s crucial to remain humble at all times, as life is unpredictable. Therefore, I continue to lead a normal life due to the importance I place on these principles.”

The Young Professionals Business Network aims to unite individuals from diverse career professions within a single networking platform.

Other notable speakers at the event included millionaire Ibrahim Mahama and TV personality Nana Ama Mc Brown.
