The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has led the Police Management Board to the Ashanti region to commend police officers for their role in ensuring maximum security during the Christmas and New Year period.
The police administration used the occasion to reiterate the call for officers to be professional, strongly cautioning them to refrain from taking bribes in the line of their duties.
The IGP and the top hierarchy of the police service identified the police visibility team as a major reason for the increased security witnessed in the Ashanti region.
As part of his visit to the Ashanti region, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is expected to meet Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and later meet members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA).
Chief Supt. Grace Ansah-Akrofi, addressing journalists after the IGP engaged the police officers at the Ashanti regional police headquarters, said, “They came to appreciate all police officers in the region, especially our visibility police patrols, for the hard work, dedication, and their presence throughout the Christmas season.”
“We believe everyone in Kumasi here can attest to the fact that our men were out there morning, day, and night, making sure that everybody on the street was safe. Everyone in their homes and offices was covered. This is part of the police’s transformational agenda led by theIGP and his management members to make sure that we take policing closer to the people.”
