The Diaspora Conversations Conference held on Tuesday, 2nd January 2024, marked a significant success in unravelling the narratives, experiences, and trajectories of the diaspora community, focusing on ‘The Diaspora Canvas.’
The event, in partnership with Ecobank Ghana hosted at their Head Office Auditorium in the Ministerial Area of Accra, underscored the escalating interest in Ghana’s diaspora relationships, bridging the connection between the Diaspora and the broader African continent.
In its third edition, the conference provided a robust platform for diasporans to engage directly with crucial governmental bodies, business magnates, and investors. The gathering witnessed various highlights:
Government Agency Collaborations: Agencies such as the National Identification Authority (NIA) expedited the issuance of Ghana Cards to attendees requiring immediate access.
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and Ghana Lands Commission played pivotal roles, enriching the dialogue and emphasizing their crucial involvement in fostering diaspora connections.
Panel conversations had representatives from both the Public & Private Sectors in Ghana and the diaspora engaged in nuanced discussions about doing business in Ghana. Topics ranged from land procurement and registration to the pivotal role of the Ghana Card in the business landscape.
The first panel, ‘Meet the Regulators,’ featured Chief Superintendent Simon Asare (Ghana Immigration Service), Surv. Jones Ofori-Boadu (Ghana Lands Commission), Mr. Akwasi Agyeman (Ghana Tourism Authority), Mr. Emmanuel Nortey Botchway (Birth and Deaths Registry – Ghana), Mr. Joseph Poku (Social Security and National Insurance Trust) and Dora Badu Acheampong (National Identification Authority).
Attendees had the opportunity to interact with entrepreneurs who have successfully navigated the intricacies of the Ghanaian business milieu, providing invaluable insights for all present.
Participants leveraged opportunities to connect with industry stalwarts, potential collaborators, and fellow diasporans, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
