New Force Movement leader, Nana Kwame Bediako, has denied accusations of tax evasion made against him by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
According to the Ghanaian Times, the GRA claimed that Cheddar had failed to file personal income tax returns from 2013 to 2016 and had been fined a total of GH¢50,000.
He said, “Despite settling a sum of GH¢209,171.00 between 2018 and 2020, he once again failed to file his returns for the post-2020 period.”
The authority also estimated his tax assessment for 2021-2022 to be GH¢2,088,228 and GH¢5,096,536 respectively, with penalties for his failure to file returns.
However, Cheddar, on his social media page, insisted that he had consistently paid all his taxes due to his importation business and could not have avoided paying them for over 22 years of doing business in Ghana.
He debunked the allegation, claiming that the government wants to disgrace him.
He said, “I woke up this morning, only to see my pictures in multiple newspapers claiming that I have evaded taxes. I have worked almost 22 or 23 years in this country, and I’ve been paying all my taxes, and I still pay.”
He urged the government and GRA to at least settle any issues as such through discussion; however, he disagreed with the claim.
“If you believe I own you, we can talk about it. It’s not about disgrace and those at GRA, if you see something like this, and you want us to speak on it, I’m always available.”
He called on the government to create more jobs to address unemployment in the country, stating that the country lacks factories and jobs.
