A first-year student at Aburi Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region has tragically died after allegedly being denied medical attention by the school nurse, who purportedly accused her of repeatedly feigning illness.
The student, Stacey Okyere, who had complained of severe stomach pains, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024.
According to reports, she was rushed to the hospital but, unfortunately, was already dead by then.
The deceased student’s body has been taken to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital for autopsy. Her family, who reportedly reside abroad, have arrived in Ghana after being informed of the heartbreaking news.
The father of the deceased, Kofi Danso, narrating to Citi News, said, “She called us that she wasn’t well, but we didn’t take it seriously because we mostly play with her. She told us to come to pick her up because she was seriously sick, but we thought she just wanted us to come around, so we informed her that we would come the next day, which was a visiting day. We later received a call in the next two hours that the situation had worsened.”
“Realizing that the situation was serious, they should have sent her to the hospital after giving her first aid. So we went to the school after the call, and when we got there, she was lying on the floor, surrounded by the Headmaster and some students. So we quickly rushed her to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, the police, along with the school management, are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s untimely demise.
