The Office of the Gborbu-Wulomo, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII says it is expecting the arrival of Naa Okromo, the 13-year-old girl (reportedly 15) who was allegedly married to the 63-year-old Gborbu Wulomo today, April 12, 2024, to commence the performance of traditional rites on Sunday, April 14, 2024 ahead of the Homowo festivities.
This comes after Child Rights International revealed that the Department of Social Welfare would return the 13-year-old girl to her biological parents today.
Speaking to journalists, the Nungua Mankralo, Tsetse Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II said Naa Okromo would be expected to perform the rituals associated with her new role upon her return.
“On the 14th of April, she needs to start the process where she is going to take seven days of purification rites. Also after detaining her for almost about 14 days, we need to also perform some particular rights that we call ‘dzramor’ because she has been away from her duties and has been away from her sacred home.
“For that reason, some particular rights need to be performed before we can start the process on Sunday. The further they detain her, for us, is an upfront to our tradition, customs and usages,” he stated.
