The Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), Mr. Prince Ofosu Sefah has reiterated the government’s commitment to extending Telecommunication networks to rural and underserving communities in the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions to promote effective communication in those areas.
Prince Ofosu Sefa said the government of Ghana through the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization, has built 1,010 rural telephony network sites across the country, of which, the Bono Region has 12 sites, Ahafo Region has 20 and the Bono East Region also has 36 sites.
Mr. Prince Sefah made these revelations at Techiman in the Bono east region, when GIFEC provided training for some selected Ghanaians including Persons Living With Disability under the program dubbed “ICBVI training for Citizens. ”
The “ICBVI training for citizens”, is a government of Ghana initiative that is aimed at equipping Ghanaians with the necessary skills in Computer usage for accelerated growth in the digital space. Over 400 persons including people living with disability benefited from the training. The beneficiary graduands were presented with certificates and awards.
Mr. Sefah further revealed that the government has earmarked to construct 1000 sites to extend the networks across the country, this, he said, is geared towards promoting effective communication across the country.
“We have plans to add 1,000 sites this year across the country. All the towers in Ghana and they will be deployed. Network accessibility is our priority. This will go a long way to improve the digitalisation we are pushing.”
The Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan thanked the Communications Ministry, GIFEC, and other stakeholders for the training and said, it will go a long way to impact the trainees positively.
Representative of the trainees, the Bono East regional President of the Blind Union, Jeremiah Isahaku on his part thanked the organizers for the opportunity given to them to improve their ICT skills.
He added that the system that was used to teach them was friendly and convenient.
He further assured the government that, they will employ every aspect of the training in their future endeavors.
