The Ministry of Finance has held a sensitization workshop aimed at equipping key stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to address the persistent challenge of arrears accumulation within Ghana’s public sector.
The workshop, held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, brought together representatives from various government Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs)
Led by officials from the Ministry of Finance, participants engaged in insightful discussions and interactive sessions focused on understanding the root causes of arrears accumulation and exploring effective strategies to prevent it.
Speaking at the workshop, Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam emphasized the importance of proactive measures in tackling arrears accumulation and promoting fiscal discipline.
“Arrears accumulation poses a significant challenge to our fiscal stability and undermines our ability to deliver essential services to the Ghanaian people,” stated Dr. Amin Adam. “Through targeted sensitization and collaboration, we can implement robust preventive measures to mitigate the risk of arrears accumulation and ensure the efficient utilization of public funds.”
The workshop provided attendees with practical guidance on budgetary planning, expenditure management, and compliance with regulatory frameworks such as the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act. Participants also received insights into the role of effective commitment controls and the importance of transparency and accountability in financial management.
In addition to presentations and discussions, the workshop featured interactive exercises and case studies aimed at illustrating real-world challenges and best practices in arrears prevention. Participants had the opportunity to share their experiences and insights, fostering a collaborative learning environment conducive to knowledge exchange and capacity-building.
