The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has cautioned Ghanaians against travelling to the Gao and Ansongo regions of Northern Mali.
The caution is in response to recent security incidents along the main highways connecting Mali and Niger.
In a statement released on Friday, April 26, the Ministry reported instances of terrorist harassment of travellers on these routes.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration cognisant of the recent security development along the major highways linking Mali and Niger, particularly the Gao and Ansongo Regions of Northern Mali wishes to advise the travelling public to avoid travel along that route as there have been reports of terrorists harassment of commuters who ply the routes.”
The Ministry also encouraged the public to prioritize their safety when travelling and promised to provide updates on the security situation in the region.
“The Ministry remains committed to the safety of Ghanaians and will provide updates on the security situation in the region under reference in due course. The Ministry further urges the Ghanaian public to always prioritise their safety when travelling.”
