Open Institute of Technology, an EU-accredited online institution renowned for its expertise in IT education, has recently released results from its inaugural cohort of students from 2023.
As it prepares to welcome the next classes of students for online Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in IT, OPIT shared statistics on their globally constituted premier batch.
In its inaugural year, OPIT attracted a diverse cohort of 100 students from 38 different nations, with a notable representation from Africa. A proportion of both Bachelor’s (9%) and Master’s (7%) students originated from African countries, demonstrating OPIT’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity within its student body.
Also, a substantial percentage (40%) of Master’s students hailed from non-STEM backgrounds, underscoring OPIT’s dedication to providing educational opportunities to individuals from diverse professional domains.
OPIT’s first cohort boasted students from various industries, including Consulting, Tech, Gaming, Energy, Government, Financial Services, Agriculture, Oil and Gas, and Education, among others. This diverse mix of backgrounds contributes to a vibrant learning environment at OPIT.
Concerning its first class of students, Professor Francesco Profumo, Rector of OPIT (and former Minister of Education, University and Research of Italy), said:
“Our founding mission was to democratize access to high-quality IT education globally through our fully remote study model. We are thrilled by the diverse nationalities and origins represented in our inaugural cohort of students, as it reflects the inclusivity and accessibility we aim to achieve. We are particularly gratified to welcome students from esteemed organizations like KPMG, AWS, Nokia, the European Union, EA Sports, among others, which underscores the growing confidence in our educational approach.
“Equally significant to us is the enrollment of students from historically underrepresented regions, such as Sub-Saharan Africa, where there exists a pronounced digital and technological knowledge gap. Through our revamped programs, we are committed to nurturing a new generation of leaders equipped with the skills to leverage technology for fostering growth and development in these underserved regions”.
