Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Theresa Lardi Awuni, has strongly denied allegations of her involvement in the removal of campaign materials belonging to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei
The allegations surfaced amidst a routine constituency door-to-door campaign, during which Awuni addressed the issue alongside the regional chairman of the NDC and other party executives.
During the tour, Awuni clarified her stance, refuting any association with the removal of billboards and campaign paraphernalia belonging to Nana Ama Dokua.
She emphasized her dedication to serving constituents, stating, “Sometimes I don’t even want to bring her in the picture. She’s not my focus right now. My people know that I’m not violent, my executives are not violent.”
Awuni further expressed her belief in the democratic process, stating, “I will not be surprised that unpopular Dokua pulled down her billboards to court sympathy. We don’t have time to pull down billboards to make somebody popular.”
She also assured the Okaikwei North constituents of her unwavering commitment to serving them, even while in opposition, stating, “I’m their MP and I’ll be there for them.”
On his part, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, underscored the importance of door-to-door visits to constituents in Okaikwei North. He highlighted the significance of engaging with constituents to explain the policies and manifesto of the NDC, including the ’24-hour economy’ proposed by the party’s 2024 presidential candidate.
“This is the second time we’ve met, and the 10th constituency we’ve done,” Moore stated. “We go and meet the people and explain to them the details of the ’24-hour economy’ policy for them to understand. That is a very pivotal part of our manifesto.”
The tour not only addressed the allegations against Awuni but also aimed to bolster support for her re-election bid by highlighting her achievements and dedication to the constituents of Okaikwei North.
