The immediate past Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana, Rev. Prof. P. F. Ayeh-Kumi, has entreated 2024 graduating students at Family Health University College Medical School to adapt to new ways of medicinal practice.
According to him, the field of science keeps evolving, and there is a need for the graduates to be skilful and adapt to the new ways of practice.
In order to achieve this, he urged the graduates to master how to make diagnoses of ailments.
Prof. Ayeh-Kumi gave the advice during the 2024 graduation and matriculation of the students at Teshie in Accra.
He said the knowledge acquired at Family Health University College would guide them to adapt to the evolving ways of practicing medicine.
By adapting to new evolving ways of practising medicine, Prof. Ayeh-Kumi indicated that it later contributes to making them unique and thereby giving them an advantage over their other colleagues.
“As future health professionals, your commitment to continuously do better will be crucial in providing the best possible care to your patients,” he emphasized.
He advised the matriculants to believe in themselves, trust in their abilities, and know that they have the power to make a difference in the world.
The Founder of Family Health University College and President of Family Health Medical School, Prof. Yao Kwawukume, in a welcome address, revealed that the school was witnessing extensive development in infrastructure on campus and improved support services for students, including counseling services and recreational facilities, as well as an increased number of faculties.
“Issues of accommodation and support for needy but brilliant students remain a challenge in the university college. We will, therefore, use this opportunity to invite stakeholders and other partners to assist FHUC in planning towards its accommodation issues. Currently, the FHUC endowment fund has also been launched, and we welcome donations from all and sundry,” he noted.
Prof. Kwawukume challenged the graduands to remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence and embrace the opportunities that come their way, and never to lose sight of the impact they can have on the lives of patients.
The ceremony graduated 48 students, with 33 in Medical Sciences (BSc) and 15 in the entry medical program, which awards students with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) degree after four and a half years of studies.
About 60 freshmen and women matriculated. Out of this number, 42 partook in the White Coat ceremony.
Mbanya Kamkeng, Naomi, received the Prize for Overall Best MBChB.
