The Osu Traditional Council has called on the government to halt the encroachment and unauthorised sale of Osu Stool lands to private developers.
The council has pointed fingers at the government, specifically the Lands Commission, for the illegal sale of lands owned by both the state and the stool, carried out with apparent awareness.
In a press conference in Accra on Friday, the Osiahene of the Osu Stool, Nii Nortey Adumuah, alleged that the government is exploiting the ongoing chieftaincy disputes to unlawfully seize lands belonging to both the stool and the state for their own advantage.
“Today, what is happening at this so called Marine Drive? The Marine Drive Project, we were told that they are coming to develop the frontier of where? The what do you call it? The beach, the beachfront. We are aware that those lands are being also sold out to private developers.
“And people are buying from marine drive projects, millions of dollars. How much was it given to Osu? When you go to Ringway Estate, which is not far from where we are sitting, all government bungalows so far are coming down. All government bungalows so far are being pulled down and it is not all the government bungalows that are sitting on public lands,” he stated.
