Police are investigating the death of 12-year-old Emmanuel Opoku, who drowned at Tanoso in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
The deceased, met his untimely death while attempting to save his sister, who had jumped into a gutter while they were playing in the Wednesday rain.
Speaking to the Assembly Member of the Tanoso Electoral area, Aaron Nandie, he indicated that the deceased’s body has since been deposited at the morgue while the police carry out their investigation.
Mr Nandie added that the sister of the deceased, who was taken to the hospital after the incident, has been discharged and is doing well.
“The incident occurred at Tanoso Electoral area around one o’clock in the afternoon. The incident involves a boy and a girl. They were playing in the rain and, the girl jumped into the rain gutter. When the boy realised that his sister was drowning, he quickly jumped into the gutter to save his sister.”
“Helpers came and rescued the girl from the water but we lost the boy, he’s called Opoku Emmanuel, 12 years old. We quickly sent the girl to Tanoso Hospital for treatment and she’s fine and was discharged yesterday. The dead body is still at the morgue and the police are still on their investigation.”
